| PERFECT PRINCESS Once upon a time A time not long ago There was a princess Those who knew her marvelled at her perfection She was the most beautiful princess in all of the lands She had long silky hair A fair complexion as pale as snow She had wide eyes, ever so innocent A red lipped luscious mouth Her clothes were always fashionable without being to seductive For she was the perfect princess She watched the world through sad eyes In her eyes the world was broken She had so many responsibilities Knowing she was viewed as the ultimate perfection Feeling the pressure of having to act the part She couldn’t be herself Never being able to show her faults, her loneliness her imperfection For she was the perfect princess Tears always flowed like an angry river They streamed down like an uncontrollable flood But they only spilled when she was alone Anger, fear, sorrow and helplessness rear their ugly heads They have no outlet; they must remain hidden like a dirty secret For she was the perfect princess She must be there for those who seek her guidance For those who seek her comfort For those who seek her strength For those who seek a moment of perfection For she was the perfect princess She was always the shoulder to cry on She was always the one to depend upon She never wanted anything for her kindness She never swore or let her emotions be known For she was the perfect princess How was the world to know what was going on inside? All we ever saw was perfection How could we have seen her loneliness? All we ever saw was happiness For she was the perfect princess Was it our fault what happened? Should we have seen through the act? How can someone fake such perfection? She never complained that we were burdening her For she was the perfect princess She walked to the top of a tower one day She stared over the edge The people who depended on her becoming a distant memory No longer caring what would happen to them, yet afraid to leave them For she was a perfect princess She thought pleasant thoughts of all those people She stepped off her tower She fell so gracefully Even in death she looked so perfect For she was the perfect princess Maybe if we hadn’t burdened her with all our problems Maybe if we had listened to hers Maybe if we hadn’t been so self obsessed Maybe if we had shown that we didn’t care if she wasn’t perfect For she was not a perfect princess She had her faults We were too blind to see She was so alone We were too unfair For she was not a perfect princess We forgot that no one is perfect She couldn’t handle our pressure We forgot that everyone needs an outlet She felt she couldn’t tell us her problems For she was not a perfect princess There is no such thing as perfect Everyone has their problems Just because someone seems like they have it all Doesn’t mean they don’t have problems to For there’s no such thing as a perfect princess |
